On the same day that we report on an Irish and Northern Ireland meeting to tackle food safety across the island, the Food Standards Agency in Northern Ireland has published the first of its audit reports that examine the food law enforcement work carried out by councils.
The audits were set up as part of the Food Standards Agency's aim to improve consumer protection and confidence in relation to food.
According to a statement this week the first audit report, from Lisburn Borough Council, revealed a good level of compliance with the standard, particularly in relation to investigative work, prosecutions and formal cautions.
The Agency in Northern Ireland hopes to publish five audit reports in 2002, with a further five planned in 2003.
