The Scottish food and drink manufacturing sector aims to increase sales by one third, to ₤10bn by 2017; in the last two years sales of Scottish goods in Great Britain area already up 21 per cent.

The new target was revealed as part of a wider plan to strengthen the sector, communicated at the Royal Highland Show.

Scotland recently launched its very first food and drink policy. A new document, called Recipe for Success, sets out the next steps in the plan.

As well as the sales target, other measures include getting more Scottish food onto menus, supporting farmers markets and local shops, a new charter with supermarkets in five areas that are on board with the food policy, and stepping up food education in schools.
